My name is Dimitra Didangelou and I’m a psychologist, science journalist and author. I aim to help people gain insight and bring balance into their life through expressive/ therapeutic writing.
After filling thousands of pages for personal and professional purposes, I quickly discovered the power of the written word. My specialization is therapeutic and expressive writing, helping people gain insight into their lives, listen to their inner voice and enhance their creativity.
I have worked as a journalist for more than fourteen years in order to raise public awareness about mental health issues and currently, alongside founding and editing a web-magazine that explores psychology, I’m the founder of “Expressing MySelf”, an Institute which offers workshops promoting conscious and creative living.
I strongly believe that written language is a powerful tool for our personal development and therapy. As Margaret Atwood said, “A word after a word after a word is power”. Through special techniques, we can express our feelings and thoughts and narrate our personal story. We can understand who we are and what is important to us. As we read and hear the words we have written, a new perspective of our self, our life and world are revealed in front of us. We become more confident and capable in order to move forward with our lives.
As a certified psychologist, I work a lot with individuals or groups through the internet, having participants from all over the world. To paraphrase Ludwig Wittgenstein “the limits of my world are the limits of my internet connection.”
When not working online, I ground myself and find the balance between virtual and real life, by facilitating workshops in Berlin, Cyprus, Greece, or by request in one of several other locations.
My training includes Advanced Study in Therapeutic Writing (The Center for Journal Writing in Denver, CO, USA), a Master of Science Degree in Psychology and Mass Media, a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and a Certificate in Philosophical Counseling and Psychotherapy.
I’m a published novelist and my short stories have been distinguished in many writing contests.
I love writing fiction based on real stories because I believe that the unbelievable stories life brings in surpass even the most powerful imagination.
The group workshops and the individual sessions I conduct are held in an environment of safety and support, with empathy and respect for each participant’s personality. You can feel comfortable and express yourself freely, without concern about criticism.
Expressive writing doesn’t demand any previous writing experience or writing skills.
